DoAName is a free business name generator built for founders, side-hustlers and small business owners who need a name that sounds like a real brand — and can actually be used.
Why we built this
Most name generators do the easy part and then stop. They hand you a list of words, and leave you to work out the rest: is the domain free, is the name already trademarked, will it survive being said out loud on a phone call.
That second half is the part that actually matters. A name you love but cannot register is not a name — it is a delay. DoAName is built around the whole path: generate something brandable, then check whether it is genuinely available before you commit to it.
How our name generator works
Our generator is not a random word mixer. It runs four naming engines, each based on a different naming tradition, and each producing a different kind of name.
Modern — short, abstract names built from clean consonant-vowel patterns. These are the names that read as contemporary without dating quickly.
Invented — coined words assembled from pronounceable syllables. This is how many well-known brands were created, and it is where genuinely ownable names usually come from.
Compound — two real words joined together. Descriptive, easy to spell, and easy to explain to a customer.
Classic — established naming patterns that signal stability and trust. Well suited to professional services, real estate, finance and healthcare.
Every suggestion then passes a pronounceability check. We reject names with unpronounceable consonant clusters, doubled letters that invite misspellings, and lengths that break down in speech or in a logo. What survives is scored and ranked, so the strongest options appear first instead of burying you in volume.
Plus four more playful styles – rhyming names, acronyms, location-based names and puns.
What we deliberately do not do
We are a naming tool, not a law firm, a trademark office, or a domain registrar. We do not provide legal advice, and nothing on this site is a substitute for it.
We cannot tell you with certainty that a name is legally clear. Trademark rights in the United States depend on your industry, your geography and existing registrations we have no access to. Before you commit to a name, search the USPTO database and, where the stakes justify it, speak to a trademark attorney.
We also do not sell names, hold premium domains, or charge for access. Every feature on this site is free, and you never need an account to use it.
Our principles
Free, with no signup and no email gate.
Your keywords stay in your browser. The generator runs entirely on your device — what you type is never sent to our servers or stored by us.
Honest about limits. We tell you what our tool cannot check, instead of implying it checks everything.
No inflated numbers. We would rather give you twelve usable names than two hundred filler words.
Clear about money. Some outbound links are affiliate links, and we say so on the page where they appear.
Who uses DoAName
People use DoAName at a lot of different stages: naming a first side business, rebranding a company that has outgrown its original name, launching a product line, opening a shop, or simply testing whether an idea has a name worth building on. If you are at any of those stages, start with the generator on our home page — it takes about thirty seconds.
